Maharana Pratap Jayanti: Maharana Pratap was one of the greatest kings to rule the country. He fought many battles for the safety of his kingdom and his people. He is remembered as an epitome of bravery, valor and dedication. Maratha Pratap belonged to the Sisodia clan of Rajputs and is considered one of the most respected kings to rule the country. Maharana Pratap’s birth anniversary is celebrated every year with much pomp and grandeur throughout Rajasthan and other parts of India.

According to the Julian calendar, Maharana Pratap was born on May 9, 1540. However, the Julian calendar became obsolete and was replaced by the Gregorian calendar – according to which, Maharana Pratap was born on May 19, 1540. At present, the calendar is followed for Hindu festivals. According to Drik Panchang, Maharana Pratap Jayanti will be celebrated on 9th June this year.

Born to Maharana Udai Singh II, the ruler of Mewar, Maharana Pratap ascended the throne after his father’s demise. In his early years, Maharana Pratap fought many battles and also fought the first war of independence for the country. He is famous for the battle of Haldighati where he fought against the Mughal emperor Akbar. In January 1597, Maharana Pratap suffered serious injuries and died on January 29, 1597.

Like Maharana Pratap, his horse Chetak was also brave, powerful and intelligent. During the battle of Haldighati, the elephant of Akbar’s commander Chetak lost its head and Maharana Pratap got the opportunity to fight Mansingh. After this, when Mughal army soldier Pratap went back, Chetak made him cross the river 26 feet. Chetak was seriously injured in the battle and Pratap’s favorite horse died. Chetak did not give up worldly glory till the end.
