Kevin Feige Never Wanted Robert Downey Jr to Play Iron Man

Since the release of Iron Man in 2008, MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) has been delivering a series of successful superhero movies. And undoubtedly, American actor Robert Downey Jr was one of the most important parts of it. He played the world-famous character of Iron Man in this universe, which is fans’ favourite till now.

Without him, it couldn’t have been possible for Marvel Studios to make it so big. But do you know, Robert was not the first choice of MCU boss Kevin Feige for the character of Iron Man? He wasn’t sure whether the actor can pull off this character or not.

According to Kevin, Robert Downey Jr was not an action star. And that is the only reason, the producer was so worried about offering him the role of Tony Stark.

“We Quickly Realized The Risk,” Said MCU Boss Kevin FeigeKevin Feige

According to the old report of Fandom Wire, MCU Boss Kevin Feige once told in an interview that he never wanted Robert Downey Jr to the role of Iron Man.

He said, “Robert Downey Jr was an amazing actor. Everybody knew he was an amazing actor. But he hadn’t been an action star. He wasn’t a marquee star, necessarily. And we quickly realized the risk, I’ve said this before, was not casting him.”

“And Jon Favreau really had that vision for that movie and for Robert in that role. That decision, and the success of that decision, I think empowered us with further risks and further choices.”

Thereafter, Kevin added that it was the biggest risk of his life that paid him really well. He said, “I was lucky enough to be involved in early Spider-Man films and X-Men films. But we wanted to do an Iron Man movie. And I do think, still, the biggest risk – which seems outrageous to say now – was casting Robert Downey Jr.”

“It was both the biggest risk and the most important thing in the founding of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Without Robert, we wouldn’t be sitting here today. I really believe that.”
