Despite garnering much international acclaim during its campaign for an Oscar nomination, fans in India were disappointed when the jury failed to select RRR to be India’s official entry in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Academy Awards. Months after Pan Nalin’s movie, Chhello Show, was chosen for the same by the Indian jury, Jr NTR, an actor from RRR, spoke to the foreign media about the situation.

Speaking to Variety after his movie RRR won the Best Foreign Language Film award at the Critics Choice Awards last week, Jr NTR stated he was proud of his film regardless of the Indian jury’s decision to submit Chello Show to the Oscars. When asked what he thought about the selection, he asserted that the ‘panel knows the best’. “I don’t think there is a lot of politics going on with what films should go. I think the panel, which is sitting down there knows what they do the best,” he said.

The performer also expressed that RRR has effectively served to showcase India on the international stage and he is pleased with that alone. “Hindi has been a major language for a long time and that’s why it has become so prominent.

It doesn’t matter if people watch RRR or not, it has already made us proud,” he stated. Jr NTR assumes the part of Komaram Bheem in the SS Rajamouli movie. The film follows the tale of two revolutionaries from the South of India in their battle against the British Raj. Ram Charan, Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, Olivia Morris, and Shriya Saran star in the project.
