Honorable Navy Commander Found Dead in California!!

Navy Commander Robert “Bobby” Ramirez, who had just recently taken command of SEAL Team 1, was found dead at his San Diego residence on Monday. The cause of his passing is still unknown as authorities conduct their inquiry. He was 47 years old.

Navy Commander David Abernathy, the head of Naval Special Warfare Group 1, which oversees all SEAL teams based in San Diego, stated in a statement that Ramirez was “an outstanding leader, devoted husband, and father, and a good friend to us all”. There is no indication that any foul play was involved in his death. Ramirez enlisted in the Navy in 1996 and was promoted to Navy Commander in 2019.

He was awarded three Combat Action Ribbons for his services in three different war zones, as well as five Bronze Star Medals, two with “V” devices for valorous acts done during combat. Abernathy highlighted that Commander Ramirez’s passing is “a devastating loss to our community” and that the organization would be in close contact with his family and teammates as they grieve.

This is the second time in the last year that a SEAL team commander has died, as Commander Brian Bourgeois of SEAL Team 8 in Virginia Beach passed away in December 2021 following a training incident involving a helicopter.
