It appears that Google is preparing to join the competition among companies making Bluetooth-based tracking devices. Kuba Wojciechowski, an Android researcher, has reported that Google has an internal codename of “Grogu” for a tracker that the Nest team is developing. This would be a rival to the Apple AirTag and products from Tile and Samsung.

Google’s Find My Device app, which is used to locate lost or stolen phones, has been improved and is now used by millions of Android devices worldwide.
In addition to this, the company has given the Pixel 7 Pro ultra-wide band connectivity, which could be used in conjunction with a tracking device.

The device itself has two codenames, GR10 and Groguaudio, the latter of which suggests that it may feature a speaker.
The challenges of having a tracking device AirTags have been effective, but they have been known to stir up controversy. People have expressed concerns that tracking devices can be used to stalk people. Google is reportedly developing a feature called Unfamiliar Device Alerts to help users detect nearby trackers. This suggests that Google could be planning to launch its own tracking device. It is uncertain when this device might be released, but it would be a logical addition to the expanding Pixel device line.
