Sunak is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the summit. Sunak told reporters traveling with him that it is very special. I saw somewhere that I was referred to as the son-in-law of India, I hope it must have been said with affection.

Will Discuss Many Issues

The Russia-Ukraine conflict has been marked as a major topic on Britain’s agenda during the summit. Britain’s Prime Minister’s Office Downing Street said that India’s role and influence is important. Sunak told the media that once again, Vladimir Putin is failing to show his face at the G20. He is the architect of his own diplomatic exile, isolated in his presidential palace and blocking out criticism and reality.

Meanwhile, the rest of the G20 are demonstrating that we will come forward and work together to defeat Putin. A Downing Street spokesman said the UK would use every opportunity to show its support for Ukraine, as well as encourage global support.

Prime Minister Sunak’s spokesperson said that India, as the world’s largest democracy, has an important role in stopping Russia’s attack on human rights and indeed democracy. We will meet with Modi or other leaders to encourage them to use that influence to end Putin’s brutal aggression. India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) talks are also likely to figure during the Modi-Sunak bilateral discussions.

Currently, 12 rounds of talks have been completed but there is no fixed time limit for its conclusion. Downing Street has indicated that there will be no changes to UK immigration policy under the agreement, although short-term business visas will be discussed as part of trade talks.
