Do these 10 things immediately after a dog bite

  • No matter how minor the wound may seem, it does not reduce the possibility of a serious infection; it can even prove fatal. Therefore, after coming home, wash the wound with soap and water and keep it under lukewarm tap water for 5 to 10 minutes. Then dry it.
  • If there is bleeding, press the wound with a clean cloth to stop the bleeding.
  • Clean the wound thoroughly with an antiseptic solution like Dettol or Savlon and then apply Betadine ointment if you have it at home.
  • After this, tie the wound with a clean bandage.
  • Now visit a doctor so that he can look at your wound and recommend the right treatment for it.
  • The doctor will vaccinate you for tetanus and rabies. Do not forget to take all the doses of rabies otherwise the risk of rabies will remain.
  • Your doctor may also give you antibiotics for the wound, depending on the depth of the wound.
  • When a dog bites, pus often comes out from the wound, so clean it thoroughly.
If the wound is deep then it is necessary to dress the wound at least twice a day.
Take care that there is no infection in the wound. If bleeding does not stop, there is redness and swelling along with pus, pain increases, and fever rises, then contact a doctor immediately.
