Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, also known as the Creator of Swaraj, was born on 19 February 1630. He was born in Shivneri Fort, a hill fort in Junnar, now known as Pune. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was born in a family of bureaucrats and is also known as the Father of Navy.

Shivaji was the founder of the great Maratha Empire of India. He was one of the bravest and most amazing rulers of the 17th century.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj grew up studying Ramayana and Mahabharata. He grew up with a keen interest in religious teachings, especially the teachings of Hindu and Sufi saints. Shivaji was brought up with his mother Jijabai and his administrator Dadoji Kond Dev. After his father moved to Karnataka with his second wife Tukabai, Dadoji taught him horse riding, archery, patta and many other fighting techniques.

Fearing the growing power of Shivaji Maharaj, the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb ordered his subedar of the south to march against him. He presented himself with a very daring and brave raid right inside the Subedar’s camp. In this raid, he lost one of his hands and his son’s fingers.

Taking lessons from all the English merchants and Portuguese traders who already had a foothold in India, he began building a naval force. He was the first Indian ruler of his time who used sea power for trade and for the defense of his territory.

By 16, he had a group of fighters and continued fighting for Shahaji. In 1647 he took over the administration of Poona against the Bijapur government. This was a major step and led to conflict with Bijapur. Subsequently, in a short period, he also captured the forts of Purandhara, Kondhana, and Chakan. Then Supa, Baramati, and Indrapuri came under the control of Shivaji Maharaj.

How did Shivaji Maharaj Die?

The exact reason behind the death of Shivaji Maharaj is still unknown. Reportedly, Shivaji Maharaj died on the eve of Hanuman Jayanti. Many scholars and historians say that he died after falling seriously ill. Myths also claim that his second wife Soyrabai poisoned his 10-year-old son Rajaram to make him the heir to the kingdom.

In conclusion, Shivaji’s life was full of hostility with the surrounding kingdoms of Maratha territory and also made alliances to fight wars. He founded the Maratha Empire and is still remembered as a great king of India.
