Workers’ special trains are being run to send the migrant laborers stranded in different states of the country back to their home state, but for this, they have to pay the fare.

On which Congress President Sonia Gandhi issued a statement on Monday and targeted the Government.

She says that Indians stranded abroad were brought back free of cost while workers are being charged fare? In such a situation, she has decided that every unit of the State Congress Committee will bear the ticket cost of the train journey of every needy laborer and worker to return home and take the necessary steps.

“Our workers and laborers form the backbone of our economy. Their hard work and sacrifice are the foundation of our nation,” Said Sonia Gandhi.

Asking the Government on the struggle faced by the migrant workers, who were stuck away from their cities since the lockdown was inflicted.

Sonia Gandhi urged,

“When our Government can recognise its responsibility by arranging free air travel for our citizens stranded abroad, when the Government can spend nearly Rs. 100 crores on transport and food etc.
For just one public programme in Gujarat, when the Rail Ministry has the largesse to donate Rs. 151 Crores to the PM’s Corona fund, then why can’t these essential members of our nation’s fabric be given a fraction of the same courtesy, especially free rail travel, at this hour of acute distress?”
“The Indian National Congress has, therefore, taken a decision that every Pradesh Congress Committee shall bear the cost for the rail travel of every needy worker and migrant laborer and shall take necessary steps in this regard,” she further added.

As the lockdown to fight the pandemic nationwide was extended till May 17. The government started running trains since Friday for people to travel back to their homes.
