“The iPhone 15 Pro is Taking Buttons To The Next Level!”

A technology analyst has suggested that Apple may be planning to replace the clickable volume and power buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro with solid-state buttons, similar to the transition from a clickable Home button to a solid-state Home button on the iPhone 7. If users are content with the solid-state buttons, the analyst believes that the same technology could be used in other premium phones in the future. This change would involve Apple using the Taptic Engine to replicate the traditional ‘clicky’ feel of a mechanical button when pressed.

Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst from TF Securities, initially reported in October that Apple was planning to use solid-state buttons for iPhones. On Wednesday, he reaffirmed this prediction with a series of tweets providing more information about how the supply chain would work.

According to Kuo’s recent survey, the high-end models of the iPhone 15 will have solid-state buttons and extra Taptic Engines that give the sensation of the force feedback of physical keys. These alterations will make Cirrus Logic the primary beneficiary of the abandonment of physical buttons and the shift to solid-state buttons on the 2H23 high-end iPhone 15 models.

Kuo further noted that Cirrus Logic, being the exclusive provider of the controller IC for the Taptic Engine’s solid-state buttons, is likely to gain considerably as a result of this new design. He conjectured that, if the users are pleased with the design, it may be incorporated into other top-range products in the near future.

The new iPhone 15 Pro models will feature solid-state surfaces in place of physical power and volume buttons. When pressed, the Taptic Engine will generate a sensation similar to that of a real button being clicked.

The same design principle is being employed on the iPhone 8 and later models, as Apple has replaced the physical Home button with a solid-state component. Similarly, recent MacBooks have trackpads that are made of solid-state components, just like the iPhone 8.

Rumours are circulating that the upcoming iPhone 15 range could feature solid-state buttons, as well as Apple’s Dynamic Island notch design from the iPhone 14 pro models. Reportedly, the pill-shaped dynamic notch will be included in all four iPhone 15 models. Additionally, the iPhone 15 pro models could have a titanium frame instead of a stainless-steel one.
