After the Statue of Unity, now 216 feet tall Statue of Equality is going to be inaugurated in Hyderabad. It is a statue of the saint Ramanuja who worked for getting equality in society.

Now the statue is fully ready and will be inaugurated on 5 February to mark the 1000th birth anniversary of Hindu Saint.

Many of the famous personalities including Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to be part of this event. Read on the motive behind the “Statue of Equality”.

Ramanujacharya was born in 1017 in a village called Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. He was an Indian philosopher, Hindu theologian, and social reformer. He dedicated his whole life to travelling across India for a revolution in social justice and equality.

Ramanuja thought that everyone is equal in the eyes of God, irrespective of castes. His life, principles, and teachings have inspired many big leaders like Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi, Dr BR Ambedkar etc. He had also started the Bhakti movement for serving the purpose of equality in society.

Why His Statue Is Called The “Statue Of Equality”?

Ramanuja was an advocate of social equality for all sections of society. He is the only Brahmin who fought for the rights of lower castes.

Ramanuja did many things that bring social equality like encouraging society to open the temple doors for lower caste, providing education to deprived people, etc. His thoughts about equality are based on the concept of “Vasudaiva Kutumbakam” which means “all the universe is one family”.

He travelled to almost every state of India spreading his great concept of Universal brotherhood. For his great work, he is being titled as Statue of equality.

According to Chinna Jeeyar Swami, Ramanujachary’s philosophy was designed in the statue to cross the limits of the cast system.
