Palaniappan Manickam, an Indian-origin doctor in California, America, has explained in an Instagram post why one should not drink milk before sleeping at night. Dr. Manikkam has told in a video that there is an enzyme called lactase in the small intestine that breaks the lactose present in milk like glucose and galactose into small pieces so that they can be easily absorbed. He said that lactase enzyme is present in the body of children which helps them to digest milk faster. However, after 5 years the production of lactase in the body starts decreasing.

Lactase production becomes zero at the age of 30. Without this, milk reaches the large intestine directly and bacteria can cause indigestion. He advised that a person should not drink milk before sleeping as it can lead to indigestion. He also said that, even if you do not have digestive problems, do not drink milk just before sleeping otherwise it will affect your belly fat.
Although milk contains tryptophan which releases serotonin to “promote melatonin for a good sleep”, when to take it is important.
The doctor said that it is good to drink milk at the end of the meal.. The most important hypothesis is that drinking milk right before bed causes insulin release because the carbohydrates in milk disturb the circadian rhythm. “If you want to drink milk, please do so 2 to 3 hours before bedtime and not just before.”
