A week after the Triumph 400 duo was unveiled to the world, one of the bikes has now been launched in India. The Triumph Speed 400 is priced at Rs 2.33 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The Scrambler 400 X will be launched in India later.

Speed 400 | For the Ride

A single-cylinder, liquid-cooled 398cc Triumph engine that produces 40 horsepower at 8,000 rpm and 37.5 nm of torque at 6,500 rpm powers both of these new entry-level Triumphs. The TR-series is the name of this brand-new engine, which is paired with a 6-speed gearbox. The British duo achieves its peak performance earlier in the rev range, but the output figures are comparable to those of the KTM 390.

The smaller Speed and Scrambler bikes design is based on that of the company’s larger models, and the fit and finish appear to be quite high-end despite the relatively low price. A digi-analog display can be found on both bikes, and heated grips are an uncommon feature in this class.

  • The Speed 400 does not roll on the high-end Metzeler or Pirelli tires that were seen on it in the international press shots.
  • Instead, it rolls on 17-inch alloy rims at both ends that are shod with MRF Steel Brace rubber, which made its debut just recently on the Ultraviolette F77.
  • Some Speed 400s were also shod in Apollo Alpha H1 tires; therefore, it is unknown which tire will be used on customer bikes or whether both will be used.
  • The Scrambler 400 X sudden spikes in demand for 19/17-inch combination edges at the two finishes shod with double reason MRF Critic Kurve elastic.

Costing Rs 2.33 lakh, the Triumph Speed 400 comfortably undercuts its rivals like the KTM 390 Duke (Rs 2.97 lakh), BMW G 310 R (Rs 2.85 lakh), RE Interceptor 650 (Rs 3.03 lakh – Rs 3.31 lakh).

Both bikes come with a 2-year/unlimited mileage warranty and a 16,000 km service interval. The Speed 400 will be available from late July onwards and the Scrambler 400 X will come a little later in October.
