The world of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has so far been dominated by major tech companies from the US and China. But now, India has also made a significant leap in this race. Bengaluru-based startup Sarvam AI claims to have outperformed major AI models like Google Gemini and OpenAI's ChatGPT in a specific test.
How did Sarvam AI achieve this?
Sarvam AI's specialized tool, Sarvam Vision, performed exceptionally well in a document reading and comprehension test (OCR benchmark). According to the report, this AI model achieved an accuracy of up to 93.28%, which is said to be better than many international AI systems.
This test is conducted to see how accurately an AI can read and understand real-world documents, tables, scanned copies, and complex elements like mathematical formulas.
Experts and users are also praising it

Sarvam AI's performance is being praised not only in India but also by tech experts worldwide. Tech experts say that this AI could prove to be significantly better at understanding Indian languages and documents, as foreign models often do not fully support Indian languages.
Many users on social media have also praised this AI and called it quite advanced.
Bulbul V3: An AI that speaks in a human voice
Sarvam AI recently also launched its new text-to-speech model, Bulbul V3. This model can convert text into a human-like voice. It supports 11 Indian languages and offers more than 35 voice options. The company says that support for more languages will be added in the future.
Why is this such big news for India?
Until now, the US and China have been at the forefront of AI technology, but Sarvam AI's achievement shows that India is also rapidly advancing in the global AI race. Importantly, this AI is said to be particularly strong in understanding Indian languages and documents.
What's next?
If Sarvam AI continues to progress at this pace, it could become a major challenge to large AI platforms like ChatGPT and Gemini in the future. It is being hailed as a significant achievement for India's digital and technological future.
