Former Indian fast bowler S Sreesanth has had to pay a heavy price for making a statement in favor of Sanju Samson. Due to the statement, the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) has suspended him for three years for allegedly making false and derogatory statements. In this regard, a statement issued by the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) said that this was taken in the special general meeting held in Kochi on 30 April. S Sreesanth is currently the co-owner of Kerala Cricket League franchise team Kollam Aries.
A Look Back at Sreesanth’s Controversial Past
However, this is not the first time that S Sreesanth has gotten into trouble, as the last time it happened was in 2023, when the Legends League Cricket (LLC) commissioner sent him a legal notice after an on-field dispute with current Indian men’s team head coach and former national player Gautam Gambhir.
He had earlier suffered a massive blow in his last IPL match for Rajasthan Royals against Punjab on May 9, 2013, the season in which he was accused of being involved in spot-fixing, which led to his arrest.
Although Sreesanth always claimed his innocence in the entire controversy, he was handed a life ban along with Ankit Chavan and Ajit Chandila.
The fast bowler then challenged the decision in the Supreme Court, which quashed the life ban and asked the BCCI to consider a new punishment. The sentence was reduced to a seven-year suspension, which ended in September 2020.
What Did Sreesanth Say About Sanju Samson?
S Sreesanth had lashed out at the Kerala Cricket Association for keeping Sanju Samson out of the Indian team for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Sreesanth had alleged that Samson was sidelined by the KCA to play for the Kerala team last year, hence he missed out on selection in the national team for the Champions Trophy 2025. Meanwhile, Sreesanth is now waiting for official information from the KCA. According to sources, he will take legal recourse against the three-year suspension.
