The Pakistani government declared on February 1 that while the senior men's squad will compete in the 20-team competition, they would not play their bitter foe India on February 15 in Colombo. This position was adopted because Pakistan felt wronged by Bangladesh's expulsion from the tournament due to their refusal to visit India.

Bangladesh Out From T20 World Cup

Following Mustafizur Rahman's release by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) due to "recent developments," Bangladesh urged that the ICC move its games to Sri Lanka. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) repeatedly reported a security danger, but the ICC requested Bangladesh to reconsider after its independent examination revealed no such threat. However, the supreme authority substituted Scotland for them in Group C after they declined to go to India.

Mohsin Naqvi, the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), threatened to withdraw from the event after Bangladesh was dismissed, saying that justice had not been served. Nevertheless, it was decided that the team would participate in the competition, but not against India, following several talks between him and the PM of Pakistan.

What the Prime Minister Of Pakistan Said On This

Regarding the most recent ruling, the prime minister of Pakistan stated that the government has opposed the ICC and that politics and sports should not be combined.

Speaking to the federal cabinet in Islamabad, Sharif declared, "We have made it plain that we will not play the match against India in the T20 World Cup."We firmly believe that politics has no place in sports. We have carefully considered our options before taking this stance. I believe this is the appropriate and proper decision, and we stand with Bangladesh," he continued.

What ICC Says

India vs Pakistan

Following the Government of Pakistan's social media post on February 1, the ICC released a statement asking the former to reevaluate the ruling because it might have "long-term" ramifications for Pakistani sports.

It is important to note, nevertheless, that the PCB has not yet formally written to the ICC regarding the issue. The parties involved have started having backchannel discussions, and it is clear that the conversation is far from over.

Along with Namibia, the Netherlands, and the United States, India and Pakistan are in Group A of the T20 World Cup. On Saturday, February 7, both teams will begin play.

While the warm-up match between Pakistan and Ireland was called off owing to rain in Colombo, India trounced South Africa in a warm-up match on Wednesday at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
