On Wednesday twitter lost control of 10 of its verified accounts that included former President Barack Obama, Elon Musk, Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Jeff Bezos, and Mike Bloomberg. The scammers breached with the policies of Twitter and managed to spread a bitcoin scam message.
The spam message encouraged people to invest in bitcoin in the wallet address provided in the tweets. Apple was one among the accounts that tweeted the spam message.
Elon Musk’s tweet on Wednesday said:
“Happy Wednesday! I am giving back Bitcoin to all of my followers. I am doubling all payments sent to the Bitcoin address below. You send 0.1 BTC, I send 0.2 BTC back!”
Other verified accounts also spread similar bitcoin spam message.
According to the reports the hackers managed to gain access of the admin control. Several blockchain company accounts were also compromised during the scam.
Twitter acknowledged the problem and said:
“Once we became aware of the incident, we immediately locked down the affected accounts and removed Tweets posted by the attackers,”

Twitter further said:
“targeted some of our employees with access to internal systems and tools.”
CEO of Twitter Jack Dorsey said:
“It was a tough day for us at Twitter. We all feel terrible this happened. We’re diagnosing and will share everything we can when we have a more complete understanding of exactly what happened.”
