Realme has announced that it will introduce 240W fast charging technology for its upcoming flagship phones in 2021, beginning with the Realme GT Neo 5. This is an improvement on the 150W fast charging introduced with the Realme GT Neo 3 in 2022. The GT Neo 5 will feature a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, though its launch date has yet to be confirmed by the company, who have stated that the device will be released in February.

Fastest 240W Charging Technology

The Realme GT Neo 5 will be the first phone by the Chinese manufacturer to offer the most rapid 240W charging technology, with 13 internal temperature sensors, a PS3 fire protection design, and a comprehensive safety monitoring mechanism. Additionally, it is set to come out in February and will possess a 6580mm² cooling area, as outlined in a press release.

Realme announced that the upcoming fastest charging technology will use a 240W dual GaN mini charging adapter to achieve a power density of 2.34W/CC, with a low-voltage charging solution and a high power conversion rate of 98.7%. The package will include a 12A charging cable with 21AWG thickened copper wires and a single USB-C interface.

Realme reported that their three-way 100W charge pump parallel design with 20V 12A input and 10V 24A output had a charging conversion efficiency of 98.5 percent. Tests found that the battery life was over 80 percent even after 1,600 full charging cycles, and there was no safety failure after 21 days of testing at 85°C and 85 percent humidity.

A recent report claims that the upcoming phone will have two models with different battery and fast charging capabilities, comprising a 5,000mAh battery and 150W fast charging support and a 4,600mAh battery with 240W fast charging. It is also rumoured to feature a 6.7-inch 1.5K OLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and 2,169Hz pulse width modulation (PWM) dimming. Reportedly, it will be powered by a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC.
