It is a story from the past, dated back in 1520-1600, and sings the heroism of Kunjali Marakkar the IV. He was a brave warrior, a messiah, and a savior of Kozhikode, Kerala. Director Priyadarshan has taken only a part from his life when the Portuguese invaded the region.

He has added his own imagination to portray Kunjali as it took him years to gather all details of Kunjali. With scarce documentation, Priyadarshan twisted the tale with a hint of his love life, enemies, tragedies, and made it a half fictional story.

Kunjali’s life is shown in two parts, in the first half Pranav Mohanlal appears as young Kunjali. The main lead, Mohanlal, comes in the second half where most of the action and drama happens. The two has brilliantly done their part, Pranav infused energy and Mohanlal converted into it fire with impressive act and dialogues.
