Deep meaning of RakshaBandhan

The word "Raksha" means protection, while "Bandhan" means binding or tying. It is mentioned in the Drik Panchang that Lord Indra's wife Sachi composed the Raksha Sutra to protect her husband from demons in the war. Since then, Raksha Bandhan is worshipped to attain victory, happiness, son, grandson, wealth and health.

What to do on Raksha Bandhan 2025?

• On the day of Rakshabandhan, take a bath in the morning and wear clean clothes.
• To tie Rakhi, first prepare a puja plate, in which keep Rakhi, Akshat, Roli, sweets and lamp.
• Worship Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha before tying Rakhi on brother's wrist.
• Offer Rakhi to all the deities of the house, especially Lord Krishna or your Ishtadev.
• While tying Rakhi, take special care of the direction, like brother's face should be towards the west and your face should be towards the east.
• Sisters should tie three knots while tying Rakhi on brother's wrist.
• Now do the aarti of the brother and apply tilak. After this tie Rakhi and feed sweets.
• While tying Rakhi, keep a cloth (handkerchief, towel etc.) on brother's head.
• After this, consider donating to those in need. Donation has special significance on this day.
• If brother is away from you, send Rakhi by post or online.

What not to do on Raksha Bandhan 2025?

• Do not tie a rakhi without an auspicious time under any circumstances. It is believed that rakhi should not be tied during inauspicious time or Bhadra period, it only brings misfortune.
• Sisters should take care that rakhi should not be tied on the brother's left wrist.
• Do not celebrate the festival of Rakhi by lying or arguing with the brother. This is a festival of love and understanding, do not have differences on this day.
• Sisters should not tie rakhi before food. First worship, tie rakhi and then eat food.
• Stay away from intoxicants or non-vegetarian food. This festival is a symbol of satvikta and purity.
