According to the belief of Udaya Tithi, Rakhi will be tied on this day due to Purnima Tithi at sunrise on August 9.

During the Mahabharata period, when Lord Krishna used Sudarshan to kill Shishupal, his finger was also injured. At that time Draupadi tore a piece of her sari and tied it on his finger. In return, Lord Krishna promised to protect Draupadi and saved her modesty during the disrobing.

According to another legend, Yamuna tied a Rakhi to her brother Yamraj, in return for which Yamraj gave her the boon of immortality. In history, Queen Karnavati sent a Rakhi to Mughal emperor Humayun, pleading for the protection of her kingdom, and Humayun helped her in honor of this Rakhi.
