The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and XL6 MPVs have a combined order backlog of over 1 lakh units, confirmed Shashank Srivastava, executive director of Sales & Marketing at Maruti Suzuki, in a recent media interaction. The order backlog is primarily due to the supply chain crisis and production constraints that Maruti Suzuki has been facing for quite a while now.
- Ertiga was the country’s bestselling MPV in FY2023
- A large chunk of pending orders also includes CNG variants
Maruti Ertiga, XL6 order backlog details
- Maruti Suzuki has a dominant 50 percent share of the Indian MPV market.
- Having sold 1,27,679 Ertigas and 36,423 XL6s in the fiscal year that ended on March 31, 2023.
- In fact, in FY2023, the Ertiga was the most popular MPV in the country.
Ertiga Waiting Period Increased To 10 Months
The XL6 can be delivered a little sooner with about 4-5 months of waiting, whereas the Ertiga’s waiting period currently extends to up to 8-10 months at most locations.
Regarding the expansion of the MPV market, Srivastava is of the opinion that buyers are increasingly considering the overall experience of a three-row vehicle, so the traditional distinctions between SUVs and MPVs are becoming increasingly muddled.
Maruti to enter premium MPV segment with Invicto
In addition, the upcoming Invicto MPV will soon go more premium, even as the automobile manufacturer continues to ride the growth wave of the MPV market. A badge-engineered Toyota Innova Hycross will serve as company’s new flagship product, and it will also be the most expensive model ever produced by the automaker.
Invicto Price
The Invicto will be priced over Rs 20 lakh, and this being a price range where Maruti has never operated before, it is expecting the MPV to be a low-volume product.
