Mahindra has crossed the production milestone of 1 lakh units of the Thar SUV, which is a remarkable achievement in just 2.5 years (30 months). This indicates the popularity of this SUV in the market and how it dominates its segment.

When Mahindra introduced the new avatar of the Thar, many speculations were made, but it received an overwhelming response in terms of bookings. Its sales grew rapidly after the launch, mainly due to its right price, fantastic design, and several new features. The Thar is known for its off-road capabilities, and customers are attracted to its powerful engine and performance. Now, customers are buying this SUV not only for off-roading but also for city use.

Currently, Mahindra Thar is available in 4×4 and CRDe variants. The company is soon going to update its engine as per the BS6 Phase 2 standard, and its price may increase. The new Thar was launched on 2nd October 2020 and is available in two trims, AX and LX. The LX variant is for regular use, while the VX variant is specially designed for adventure and off-road rides.

The Mahindra Thar features new petrol and diesel engines that deliver excellent power and performance. The petrol engine is a 2.0-litre turbocharged medallion unit that produces 150 hp and 320 Nm of torque, while the diesel engine is a 2.2-litre mHawk unit that delivers 130 hp and 320 Nm of torque. The engines are available with a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox.

This includes a new 6-speed manual and torque converter automatic gearbox. The off-road SUV has a ground clearance of 226 mm and a water-wading capacity of 650 mm. The first 6-seater variant was introduced but has been discontinued. According to recent information, the Mahindra Thar will be offered with RD and E20 fuel-ready petrol and diesel engines. The SUV comes with a 2.2-litre diesel engine and a 2.0-litre petrol engine, available with manual and automatic gearboxes.

Meanwhile, the right-hand drive version is equipped with a 1.5-litre diesel engine that delivers 117 hp of power and 300 Nm of torque. The company is planning to update these engines. Along with the Thar, the company will also update the engines of other SUV
