Japan is facing a rise in covid-19 cases with total records of 810,000 cases so far with 2,180 new cases reported on Wednesday, as per BBC. According to the reports, around 14,900 people have died due to the virus.

Following which Japan had imposed the quasi-state emergency earlier which will end on Sunday i.e. 11 July 2021.

Unfortunately, neither locals nor athletes would get relief due to the new emergency imposed by Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga. The key decision was taken after discussion with ministers. It will come into effect from Monday and will continue till the 22nd of August.

This is the phase when Tokyo Olympics 2021 will take place from 23rd July till 8th August. Athletes from all around the world arrive for the upcoming event some of which include countries with rising cases of covid-19 variants. This has increased the concern of Japan and keeping both in mind the decision was taken.

The state has already banned tourists from other countries ahead of the event. Only 50 percent of the viewers were allowed to watch the matches. But the recent decision has raised questions over their presence as well.
