Chasing a target of 118 runs, the Indian team got off to a fast start. Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill scored quickly. India suffered their first setback at 60 when Abhishek Sharma, batting aggressively, was caught by Aiden Markram off Corbin Bosch for 35 off 18 balls. Tilak Verma then steadied the innings with Shubman Gill, but at 92, Gill was clean bowled by Marco Jansen for 28.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, South Africa had a poor start. Both their opening batsmen were dismissed within just two overs. Arshdeep Singh dismissed Reeza Hendricks for 1 run in the first over, while Harshit Rana dismissed Quinton de Kock for 1 run in the second. There was no significant partnership between any of the South African batsmen. In the fourth over, Harshit Rana clean bowled Dewald Brevis for 2 runs.

Indian bowlers wreaked havoc in Dharamsala. South Africa's innings was reduced to 117 runs in 20 overs. Team India achieved the target by scoring 120 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 15.5 overs. Indian openers Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill made a brilliant start. The two shared a 60-run partnership in just 5.2 overs. Abhishek was dismissed for 35 off 18 balls, hitting three sixes and three fours. He disrupted the South African bowlers' momentum.

While South Africa's wickets were falling, Aiden Markram held the innings together. In the 18th over, Aiden Markram reached his fifty off 41 balls. In the 19th over, Aiden Markram was dismissed by Arshdeep Singh for 61. South Africa's score was 114/8 at this point. In the last over, Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets, ending South Africa's innings at 117, with Anrich Nortje making 12 and Ottneel Bartman making 1. India were set a target of 118 runs to win.
