Interestingly, all Indian bowlers achieved success. Bumrah completed 100 wickets in T20Is, becoming the second Indian bowler after Arshdeep Singh to do so. Bumrah is the first Indian bowler and the fifth overall to take 100 wickets in all three formats of international cricket. Before him, Lasith Malinga, Tim Southee, Shakib Al Hasan, and Shaheen Afridi have achieved this feat. For India, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakravarthy, and Axar Patel each took two wickets. Shivam Dubey and Hardik Pandya took one wicket each.

Earlier, India's experienced all-rounder Hardik Pandya performed brilliantly in the first T20I against South Africa. Hardik showcased his batting prowess, scoring an unbeaten half-century to help India set a daunting target for South Africa. With this, Hardik completed 100 sixes in T20Is, equaling Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Hardik Pandya scored an unbeaten 59 off 28 balls for India, including six fours and four sixes. Hardik was out for more than two months due to a quadriceps injury during the Asia Cup and returned with this match.
Hardik shone on his return, becoming the fourth Indian to hit 100 sixes in T20Is. Before Hardik, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Virat Kohli have hit more than 100 sixes in T20 Internationals. Rohit holds the record for most sixes for India in T20Is, having hit 205 sixes in this format. Suryakumar is second with 155 sixes. Kohli has hit 124 sixes in T20Is.

Apart from Hardik, no other Indian batsman could score a big innings. Besides Hardik, Tilak Varma scored 26, Axar Patel 23, Abhishek Sharma 17, captain Suryakumar Yadav 12, and Shivam Dubey 10. Jitesh Sharma remained unbeaten on 10. For South Africa, Lungi Ngidi took three wickets, while Lutho Sipamla took two and Donovan Ferreira took one.
South Africa all out for 74
The South African batsmen disappointed their fans in this match. The South African team had performed brilliantly in the Test series and ODI series. However, their batting completely flopped in the very first match of the T20 series. Chasing India's target of 176, South Africa were all out for 74 in just 12.3 overs. With this, Team India has taken a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
