Holi Hair Care Tips: It’s Holi!… Yes, it’s Holi and you must have made all the preparations. You must have made preparations to celebrate Holi, but have you thought about your hair? Our hair is the most damaged by colours. In the excitement of Holi, we forget to take care of our hair. Colours may be organic, but they do damage the hair.
When you play with colours – whether they are dry or in the form of water, the chemicals present in the colours make your hair and skin dry. You can clean the colours on clothes and shoes, but how will you protect your hair from damage? In such a situation, your hair needs the most care.
Holi Hair Care tips on how to take care of your hair before and after Holi-
1- Apply oil to hair-
Apply oil to your hair before playing Holi. The oil will also nourish your hair and work as a lamination on your hair, and also protect your hair from direct damage. The colours of Holi will not even get on your hair. You can apply oil serum, argan oil and acai oil on your hair.
2- Tie your hair-
Do not leave your hair open even after applying oil. After applying oil, tie your hair in a bun so that your hair does not move here and there and does not get spoiled due to the colors. If you do not want to tie a bun, then you can protect your hair with a high ponytail.
3- Cover your hair-
To protect your hair from damage caused by colors, it is better to cover your head with a scarf etc. You can tie a stylish turban or scarf on your head. This will also be an attractive style statement and will protect your hair from both sunlight and color.
After playing Holi, the color that gets on your clothes and hair becomes difficult to get rid of. You should take special care to protect your hair from Holi colors. Follow these tips for hair care after Holi-
4- Don’t comb your hair-
Holi colours make your hair dry and sticky. One mistake we often make after applying colour is not brushing the hair. This leads to hair breakage and damage.
5- Wash your hair thoroughly-
It is believed that washing hair with lukewarm water helps remove colour from your scalp and also makes your hair soft. However, this is a misconception- hot water activates the colour in your hair and increases the chances of hair fall. Always wash your hair with cold water to remove excess colour from your hair and scalp.
6- Use the right shampoo-
Another misconception is that a strong shampoo will help remove colour faster, however, this is not true. You should use a mild shampoo that is free from parabens and sulphates and helps in reproducing natural oils in your scalp, which nourishes and moisturizes your hair again.
7- Condition well-
Once your hair is covered in colour and dust, you need to use an effective conditioner/mask to help maintain the smoothness and shine in your hair. Apply the conditioner and leave it on for 5 minutes. Then wash it off with normal water and towel dry your hair immediately.
8- Apply leave-in conditioner-
Finally, after washing your hair, apply a leave-in cream based product to your hair. This will prevent your hair from getting frizzy and look manageable.
An important thing to note is that Holi usually falls at the beginning of summer in most parts of the country, which also means that your scalp is naturally releasing a lot of heat. It is important to regularly use sulfate and paraben-free shampoo and a defrizz leave-in cream.
