Guru Purnima 2025 rituals
- Begin the day by waking up early in the morning and seeking blessings from your parents and elders by touching their feet.
- After bathing, offer prayers and worship the Lord Surya (The Sun God).
- Honour lord Ganesh (the deity of beginnings, good fortune and wisdom).
- If you have a spiritual master, visit and pay homage to them for blessings by respectfully touching their feet.
- On this sacred day, Guru Purnima, offer clothes, shoes, fruits, and Dakshina to brahmins.
- One must participate in seva.
- It is a rewarding day to feed cows.
- Devotees eat sattvic food on Guru Purnima.

- You can chant Om Namo Bhagavata Vasudeva.
- You can also chant Acyutam Keshavam Krishna Damodaram Ram Narayanam Jaanki Vallabham.

Things You Should Do on Guru Purnima
Get the blessings of your guru by following these dos on Guru Purnima
Offer respect to your Guru
- Take a moment to express gratitude to your teachers and mentors, both academic and spiritual. You can write a thank-you note for them, give them gifts or sweets.
Perform Puja for your Guru
- Offer flowers, fruits, sweets, and chant mantras during Puja. You can also include sandalwood, incense sticks, and Lamps.
Practise Mindfulness
- Meditate in reflection, spend quiet time and grow spiritually
Read Holy Scriptures
- Read texts like the Bhagvad- Gita and the Srimad Bhagwatam and the Guru Gita offer peace and wisdom.
Observe a Fast
- Fasting on Guru-purnima is considered a pious act and helps in mind and soul purification.
Donate to the needy
- Giving away essentials like food, clothes, and money to the underprivileged brings prosperity.
Visit your Guru
- If possible, visit your teachers, mentors and meet them in person to seek their blessings.
Things You Should Not Do at Guru Purnima
Don’t criticise
- Never speak badly about anyone and be down-to-earth and respectful.
Avoid overeating, drinking, and procrastinating
- Avoid overeating, drinking and wasting time. Stay focused.
Avoid negativity
- Be free and away from all kinds of negativity like anger, jealousy and Hatred. Be positive.
Never Disrespect your Guru
- Never argue or talk rudely with your guru or teachers. If you have any queries, approach them with humility.
Don’t be lazy
- Don’t be idle on Guru Purnima. Engage in worship of God, reading, mantra chanting and meditation to call it a day!
Remedies to please Jupiter on Guru Purnima
Respect your Guru
- Be respectful and pay homage to your Guru. Build a good rapport with teachers and give them a thank-you note or sweets.
Chant Mantras
- Wake up, take a bath and chant a mantra with a clean mind and body. Take the Kusha asana and sit on that. Light a diya with ghee and chant the mantras 108 times.
Don’t forget to visit the Temples
- It is advised to visit the temple on this sacred day to offer water and Chana daal on the Shivling. You can even distribute bananas to appease Jupiter.
Wear Yellow Clothes
- Apply Chandan Tilak on your forehead and wear yellow clothes to seek Jupiter’s blessings.
Offer Ladoo
- Lord Ganesha represents Ketu and Jupiter, so if you want to appease them, offer yellow Boondi or besan Ladoo to our beloved God Ganesh ji.
