“Aasman Bhi Sar Jhukaega, Aaega,
Apna Time Aayega.”
Looks like Apna Time has come finally. A treat to all Ranveer Singh fans, celebrations were not even over, for him winning the IIFA for best actor and he’s back with a piece of bang-on news again!
#GullyBoy is India's official entry to the #Oscars2020 under best international feature film category. Here's revisiting 5 things you might not know about #ZoyaAkhtar's Gully Boy: https://t.co/xYMttn3tFj @RanveerOfficial @aliaa08 pic.twitter.com/r5TRHihnUU

So, Ranveer and Alia starrer Gully Boy has been chosen as the official entry for Oscars 2020 from India and we’re …..confused? Not to undermine how great the movie was but, there were better options for Oscars, right?
How about Andhadhun? Or Uri? Or Badhai Ho maybe?
You know, I have a theory. Ever since Slum Dog Millionaire has won the Oscar, the idea of showcasing Indian poverty to impress the Oscar Jury has kinda been deeply rooted in the minds of Indian film-makers.
What they fail to understand is, you don’t get an Oscar for being poor out of sympathy; you get an Oscar for being talented out of strong competition!
Anyway, Twitter had a lot of interesting things to say! Let’s have a look:
Gully Boy is selected as India'#s first entry for Oscars 2020. A Proud moment for Indian Cinema and specially for Ranveer Singh and other casts too. This movie is dedicated to all Rappers in India, So Congrats to them too! Congrats @RanveerOfficial and @aliaa08 #GullyBoy

My issue in life is that I have a very active and visual imagination. I see poverty porn trending, and now I imagine a bunch of old white men (read: Academy members) jacking off while watching #GullyBoy. 🤷

#GullyBoy entry to #Oscars2020 – Really? Some other regional language movies could have been better choices.

#GullyBoy India's entry to #Oscars2020 but it's an Indian version of #8Mile so we will miss #Oscar

That's just too much selecting #GullyBoy as India's Oscar entry. I do hope though it wins.

Sorry to break your heart, but Gully Boy has a lot of scenes copied from Hollywood movie 8 Miles. At least they should have considered this before sending it to Oscars!
