India got a new drug for the covid treatment in patients and Goa is the first to make it compulsory for all adults. The reason behind is the report of countries like Japan, U.K., Spain, and Italy that says, “Use of Ivermectin 12 mg can significantly improve the recovery time in patients.”
Considering this in the recent announcement, the Health Minister of Goa says all above 18 will get Ivermectin irrespective of their symptoms. Read further to know more about this controversial drug.

Rane said, “All people above 18 years in Goa will be given Ivermectin drug irrespective of their coronavirus status to bring down mortality.”
He further said that taking Ivermectin 12 mg for 5 days will improve the mortality rate and recovery time in patients as stated in the report. Rane said,” All the health care centers and dispensaries at all district and sub-district levels will get the medicine for the immediate implementation of treatment.”

But the most concerning thing is the use of medicine. Mr. Rane said all the adults including those above 18 will receive the medicine irrespective of their symptoms. This also includes people who have no symptoms.

As a response to this announcement, there is a possibility that the state may face a shortage of Ivermectin 12 mg as in the case of Remdisiver.
How Effective Is Ivermectin 12 mg In Covid Treatment?

The controversial part is the effectiveness and usage of medicine as it is an antiparasitic drug. It is mostly used to treat worm infections by killing or paralyzing the parasites causing infections.
However, few researchers in their initial findings found it effective against viral infections. Moreover, a research group of India has also found in their small studies that the drug can be a possible treatment. But, researches said then that these findings are insufficient to call it as potential drug for covid treatment. More trials and studies can confirm its efficacy.
Side Effects And Potential Risks
Mild side effects of Ivermectin include:
1. Dry skin
2. Itching and irritation
3. Pain in joints and muscles
4. Swollen face
5. Sore throat
The drug is not suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding women. Furthermore, the drug is not safe for those having allergies, brain issues, asthma, or bleeding disorders. It can also increase complications if taken along with certain medicines. Thus, a doctor’s consultation is necessary before using it.
