First Generation iPhone sold at $63,000 !!

iPhone

A factory-sealed-first-generation iPhone sold for about $63,000 (Rs 52.4 lakh) at an online auction.

As per the Apple Insider, Karen Green was the owner of that very iPhone. Although the phone was only adaptable for AT&T mobile networks and at that time, Green used Verizon. Meanwhile, Green was not ready to switch to AT&T from Verizon.

In 2007, the year when Karen Green got a new job, some of her friends purchased the first gen iPhone.

Green kept the brand new phone the way it was, sealed in the box, feeling as the years passed on that an antiquarian might find it precious. Her intuition got confirmed when collectors on the show calculated the price at approx $5,000.

However, the results of that online auction went beyond every expectation this weekend. The iPhone was then estimated at $63,356.40, more than 100 times of its original price, and over any vintage iPhone before that.

LCG Auctions, which is specially designed in pop culture collectibles, referred to the phone as a hot-ticket item for antiquarians as well as investors.

It shows splendidly, introducing sharp corners front and back, rich colour, and ‘case fresh’ features, according to them.

Some of the key features are the phone’s 2-megapixel camera along with the web browser, and the “epochal” box having a life-size image of an iPhone having 12 icons on the touchscreen.

Initially, the Bidding started at $2,500 and skyrocketed swiftly during 27 rounds. Montero stated on CNN that initially there were about 10 bidders fighting for the phone, which finally belonged to an anonymous bidder from the United States.
