Enforcement Directorate is tightening its grip over the betting app promoter, Saurabh Chandrakar. As per the reports, the central agencies are preparing to interrogate Bollywood personalities who participated in Saurabh’s extravagant wedding.
Extravagant Wedding in Dubai
- Backdrop: Saurabh Chandrakar, originally from Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, had an opulent wedding in Dubai this February, which cost around 200 crore INR.
- Star-studded Affair: Many film actors and singers graced the event. Prominent figures like Tiger Shroff, Sunny Leone, Neha Kakkar, Atif Aslam, and others reportedly attended. Payments for the event organization were allegedly done through illicit channels.
- Further Investigation: Enforcement Directorate sources suggest a payment of 112 crore INR was done via Hawala for the event company, and 42 crore INR in cash for hotel bookings.
Betting App & The Scandal
- Mahadev Booking App: Saurabh, in collaboration with Ravi Uppal, operates the Mahadev Booking app, an online betting platform. Various state police forces along with the Enforcement Directorate are probing against this platform, which has its headquarters in UAE.
- Success Party: Last year in September, another event was organized by Saurabh and Ravi. This too saw participation from Bollywood stars and singers. It’s believed that payments for these stars were made through illegal channels. A prominent actor was even allegedly paid crores to attend this success party.
Assets Seized by Enforcement Directorate
- On Friday, Enforcement Directorate seized assets worth crores of rupees. Enforcement Directorate conducted raids in Raipur, Bhopal, Kolkata, and Mumbai against the Mahadev app betting syndicate.
- The circle of this investigation also includes the premises of the political advisor to Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. Allegations suggest that Baghel’s political allies received hefty bribes to allegedly shield the accused. The investigating agency has arrested at least 15 individuals in this case so far.
