It is believed that the diamond choker she wore with her Louis Vuitton outfit is stolen jewelry from India. She is now facing criticism for her look.

Story Behind Emma Chamberlain’s Choker in Met Gala 2022

The stunning choker is said to belong to one of the Maharaja of Punjab- Maharaja Bhupinder Singh. There’s a story behind how did king’s jewelry reached outside India and went missing.

The king had a De Beers diamond in 1928 which he decided to turn into a necklace for passing it to generations easily. For this, he took the help of Cartier and sent several gemstones along with diamonds to turn into a necklace.

A five-row piece of jewelry embellished with beautiful stones and more than 2000 diamonds was designed for him. It had a diamond of 234.6 carats at the center. But, the price of this necklace was not profitable for Cartier.

The necklace remained with the family of the Maharaja till 1948 when it went missing. After 32 years, a few pieces of the necklace were found in one an antique shop with gemstones missing. Cartier repaired the necklace with new gemstones that were replicas of the original ones.

After Emma Chamberlain wore it at Met Gala 2022,all those controversies and stories around this choker are revived once again. Many believe that this is disrespect to India and its Maharaja of Patiala while a few users stood in her support.
