Ellyse Perry : The ex pro footballer star who became the greatest in women’s cricket

While many wants an opportunity to be able to represent their nation in their respective sports, Ellyse Perry has proved that why she is known to be a legend player.

Ellyse Perry has not only made her name in cricket but also in football. She is the only player in history who had played both ICC and FIFA tournament. Riding on two boat didn’t mean that she was an average player, this incredible Australian has been heralded as the ultimate force in women’s cricket, yet she even made a name for herself in football and stirred some major excitement!

She is more famous for being a cricketer but she is also an phenomenal footballer. She made her debut in 2007 in both the sports. She had been maintaining a double sports career for atleast a decade until she was left with a choice of going ahead with only one sport.

Ellyse Perry Football Success

At quite a young age of 16, Ellyse Perry made a history by getting selected in Australian national team just after playing her first international football match.

She kicked her career high by making a strike in the very 2nd minute and scored her very first goal in the international match. Although she used to play as a defender but then Perry had a penchant for achieving results in both domestic and international competitions.

at Canberra United, where she was named W-League Young Player of the Year in 2009 as well as being selected as Canberra’s Player of the Year. She also bagged W-league title with Canberra before moving on to her next club.

Perry spent four years with Sydney FC, playing alongside international stars Sam Kerr, now of Chelsea, and England’s Jodie Taylor. In 2011, she participated in FIFA where she got bag full of recognition and became the first player to represent her country both in FIFA and ICC world cups.

A successful career in cricket

As a sports person, she admitted that she enjoyed playing both the sports, but then in 2012, she was asked to choose any one field to move ahead with. She struggled with the time clashes of both the sports and at last she made a firm decision of going ahead with Cricket as a full time career.

And this decision of her didn’t upset her because she went on becoming one of the finest player in cricket and made her name across the world. She lived her dream and established a dynamic career which one can never think of. Never did she think that she would achieve this heightened glory and fame just after her debut.

What her running plan now?

This year, she will be turning 33 but that doesn’t mean she has been keeping herself on hold. She has made her position as an active all rounder, conquering the field with her electrifying abilities in both batting and bowling.

Her remarkable portfolio features 11 Women’s National Cricket League titles earned with the New South Wales Breakers, five ICC Women’s World Twenty20 titles, and a World Cup title following Australia’s triumph over the West Indies in 2013.

Perry has won the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Award three times, a recognition of her excellence as the International Cricket Council’s Women’s Cricketer of the Year. In October 2021, she achieved another level of success when she took to the field for the 252nd time, making history as the most-capped player for the Australia women’s cricket team. Currently she is playing in RCB in Women’s Premier League (WPL).

This is truly an inspiration for all the youngsters who believes that to excel in any one field can make their life worth. She beautifully handled both her careers for 10 years without flinching in front of her difficulties. She truly lived a life of legend and showed that chasing your dreams is your call and responsibility. She symbolized her as a perfect role model.
