Coal Ministry: The future of the coal industry is uncertain due to the slowly decreasing demand for coal and the increase in renewable energy options. However, according to Coal India Limited, global coal production is expected to increase by 2024. 97 coal mines in India produce more than one million tons annually.
Coal Ministry Sets a Milestone
CIL will produce 780 MT of coal, followed by 75 and 162 MT for Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) and captive and commercial mines.
The Coal Minisry has set a new milestone for the Financial Year 2024; they have planned to dig around 1 billion tons of coal in the coming year. There are 290 operational coal mines under Coal India Limited (CIL) out of which 97 mines are currently producing more than 1MT per year. Moreover, CIL manages to produce 80 percent of the domestic coal used all over the country.
Ministry of Coal is determining the well-being of all 97 operational mines. Currently, 56 mines are working without any complications. However, 41 mines have 62 issues which are regularly operated by top governing organizations.
