Apparently a legal notice has been to the Clean Slate producer Anushka Sharma as the series had castist spur in it. As per the reports by Quint, Pataal Lok hurt the Nepali community by using casteist spur against them. Lawyer Viren Sri Gurung from one of the guild members has sent the legal notice accusing the show on the charges:
“There is a clip wherein during an interrogation a lady police officer uses a casteist slur on a Nepali character. There wouldn’t have been any problem had only ‘Nepali’ been used. But the word that follows it is unacceptable. Since Anushka Sharma is one of the producers of the show, we have served her a notice.”
No one including Anushka Sharma has responded to the legal notice so far. If no one reacts to tye notice it might affect the online platform Amazon Prime also where the series is being telecasted.
The lines have strongly hurt the Gorkha community sentiments and an online petition has started by the Bharatiya Gorkha Yuva Parisangh (BhaGoYuP).
Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry, Minister Prakash Javadekar said :
“The insult hurled at her by a policewoman reinstates the stereotyping of people from the North-East. The Gorkha is the largest Nepali-speaking community and this term puts down the entire clan.”
The Gorkha community is also disturbed by Pataal Lok for stereotyping the Nepali clan and showing them in the wrong light.
The series was applauded but got into some serious trouble.
