Michael Evans, president of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd, has announced plans for an investment of more than $1 billion into a logistics hub at Istanbul Airport and a data centre close to Ankara, the capital of Turkey

In an interview with Turkey’s Sabah newspaper, Evans stated that the company was planning to invest in Europe and the Middle East, and he views Turkey as a very strong production base.

Evans expressed that Istanbul Airport is the site of a major investment plan, including an evaluation of e-export plans to Europe, the Middle East, and the Far East. This endeavor is slated to have an investment of over $1 billion.

Alibaba is a major investor in Trendyol, a prominent e-commerce platform in Turkey.

He stated that the selection of Trendyol was due to its advanced technology and its potential to expand, expressing their intention to make it a center for both Europe and the Middle East.
