YouTube is said to be testing a less prominent video progress bar on Android devices, which will not always be visible. Previously, users could always see the red progress bar while watching a video on the platform.

Based on a report by 9to5Google, it appears that the new white progress bar is being tested on Android devices that have Incognito mode enabled. It is not clear if the new progress bar will be made available to all users or if it is just a test being conducted by YouTube.

The white progress bar is being implemented as a way to provide a less distracting user interface (UI) when dark themes are enabled on YouTube.

By using a lighter colour for the progress bar, it may be less obtrusive and blend in better with the overall design of the platform. This could potentially improve the user experience on YouTube by making it easier to focus on the video content.

“On one of our Android devices, YouTube’s progress bar — when you’re passively watching a video with dark theme enabled — is white/grey instead of the usual red. In those circumstances, YouTube also doesn’t note how much of a video has been loaded.”  reports 9to5Google.

YouTube ‘Live Q&A’: Know how it works

In November of last year, YouTube introduced a new feature called ‘Live Q&A’ which allows content creators to interact with their viewers while livestreaming. The feature is designed to give creators a way to engage with their audience in real time and provide viewers with an opportunity to ask questions or get more information about the content being shared. It’s part of YouTube’s ongoing efforts to provide creators with tools and features that can help them connect with their audience and build a community around their content.

The Live Q&A feature is accessed through the Live Control Room (LCR), which is a tool that creators can use to manage their live streams. From the LCR, creators can start a Q&A session and answer questions from their audience in real time. They can also moderate the questions that are being asked to ensure that the conversation stays on track and is respectful to all participants. The Live Q&A feature is one of many tools and features that YouTube provides to creators to help them connect with their audience and build a community around their content.

According to YouTube, the Live Q&A feature is designed to help creators build a community around their content and respond to important questions from their viewers during a live stream. By interacting with their audience in real time, creators can get to know their viewers better and understand what they are interested in, which can help them create content that is more relevant and engaging. The Live Q&A feature also gives viewers an opportunity to get more information about the content being shared and feel more connected to the creator and their community. Overall, the Live Q&A feature is meant to help creators build stronger connections with their audience and create a more interactive and engaging live streaming experience.

In addition to the Live Q&A feature, creators can also use the Live Polls feature to interact with their audience during a live stream. The Live Polls feature allows creators to ask their viewers a question and provide multiple choice answers, which viewers can then vote on in real time. This can be a fun and engaging way for creators to get feedback from their audience and learn more about what they are interested in. Like the Live Q&A feature, Live Polls is designed to help creators build a community around their content and create a more interactive and engaging live streaming experience. Both of these features are accessed through the Live Control Room (LCR) and can be used together or separately, depending on the needs of the creator and their audience.

The Live Q&A feature uses the same moderation systems as the live chat feature, which means that moderators have the ability to block certain words, hold questions for review, or report inappropriate or explicit questions. This is meant to ensure that the conversation stays respectful and on topic, and that viewers are able to ask meaningful questions that can help creators better understand their audience and create content that is more relevant and engaging.

Users with the ‘Manager’ or ‘Editor’ channel permissions are able to manage the Live Q&A feature and have access to a number of tools and controls that allow them to view the list of questions, select which questions to answer, remove questions from the list, and more.
