The 49-years-old will replace Geoffrey Okamoto who is about to leave next year. This will keep her off for some more time from Harvard University where she was supposed to re-join as Economics Professor.
Gita Gopinath took the role of Chief Economist in the year 2018 and while serving IMF she has been a major part and played an important role in improving the global economy. Her major contribution was in helping the fund deal with the economic crisis during a pandemic.
