WhatsApp announces new proxy support feature. Check Here

WhatsApp Proxy

On Thursday, WhatsApp declared that it is introducing proxy support to its much-loved encrypted messaging platform. Thus, users all over the world can keep using WhatsApp despite any blocking or disruption of their connection to the company’s servers. Proxy enables users to access WhatsApp through servers that are established by volunteers and organisations throughout the world who are devoted to enabling people to communicate without any restrictions.

Using a proxy to connect to WhatsApp will provide the same level of privacy and security as without one, and all private messages are still protected by end-to-end encryption.

After Iran’s local government blocked access to WhatsApp and Instagram in 2022 due to protesters using them to spread awareness of human rights violations, WhatsApp has declared it is working to prevent future internet shutdowns.

“Our wish for 2023 is that these internet shutdowns never occur,” WhatsApp wrote in a blog post. “Disruptions like we’ve seen in Iran for months on end deny people’s human rights and cut people off from receiving urgent help. Though in case these shutdowns continue, we hope this solution helps people wherever there is a need for secure and reliable communication.”

WhatsApp has also made available a guide

Those interested in creating their own proxy server for friends and family can now do so with Whats-App, which has provided a guide for users on how to do so. To access this new option, simply go to the Storage and Date settings within Whats-App. This feature is now being made available for both iPhone and Android users, but make sure to have the latest version of WhatsApp installed. WhatsApp promises that messages will remain secure and not be viewable to anyone in the middle, such as the proxy server, Whats-App, and parent firm Meta.

All users who have the most up-to-date version of WhatsApp can access a new proxy setting through the app. Whats-App suggests looking for trustworthy proxies on websites and search engines if you have an internet connection. To link to a proxy, go to Whats-App settings, tap on Storage and Data, select Use Proxy, fill in the respective address, and tap Save to connect to the service.

If a user is unable to send or receive Whats-App messages while using a proxy, a checkmark will appear if the connection is successful. However, it is possible that the proxy has been blocked and one should try again with a different proxy address. Whats-App warns that using a third-party proxy may make the user’s IP address visible to the proxy provider.
