Phone users are being alerted of some app hijackings spreading malicious viruses. Three viruses are in motion because of some apps on Android devices, made to theft private information and sign users up for premium services.

Attackers are aiming at Android phones, having one malware being downloaded over three million times so far because it is an open-sourced operating system, which means it can be operated by any third-party app.

The operating system makes devices vulnerable to cyber attacks where malware is hidden in other safe-seeming apps.

MalwareFox revealed that attackers can install applications from the Google Play store and can easily manipulate them.

‘Cyber criminals download normal apps from Google Play, insert malicious code to them, and then add the altered versions to Google Play giving a new name,’ MalwareFox further added.

‘The operationality signaled in the explanation of the apps may still be there, so users may not even be aware that an exposure pertains.’

Cyber protection firm MalwareFox has given a list of viruses so far circulating, along with the apps having them.

It revealed GinMaster, which is also known as GingerMaster, was first found out in 2011, but now contributes to 6% of the total Android malware attacks.

‘After going through the device, the GinMaster downloads its root shell deep into the device partition to be undetected.’

The malware fixes itself to ‘legitimate’ apps, and users download it unknowingly.
