Former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar also discussed Kohli's retirement earlier this week, stating that the game's mainstay
had just given up and decided to play in the simpler format of One-Day Internationals. After Steve Smith and Joe Root both scored hundreds in the fifth and final Ashes Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Manjrekar made the remark.
Formerly predicted to finish far above of his peers Smith, Root, and Williamson, Kohli ended up with fewer Test returns than the other three.Additionally, he fell 770 runs short of the desired 10,000-run milestone.
