Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government is taking a major step towards providing affordable and continuous energy for irrigation to farmers. Under this initiative, the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh will provide a total of 40,521 solar pumps to farmers in the state on subsidy under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) scheme during the year 2025-26. Farmers wishing to avail of this scheme must apply online by December 15, 2025. Applications will only be accepted on the official website of the Agriculture Department, www.agriculture.up.gov.in.

Reduced Irrigation Costs for Farmers

This move by the government is considered crucial in reducing irrigation costs for farmers, increasing crop production, and decreasing dependence on diesel. The selection process for the subsidized solar pumps will be done through an e-lottery. This means that every registered farmer who applies will have an equal opportunity.

Solar Pump Subsidy Details (HP-Wise)

Under the scheme, farmers will receive subsidies from the Central and Uttar Pradesh governments at different rates on 9 types of solar pumps. The subsidy amount is determined based on the HP (horsepower) and the type of pump.

  • Subsidy on 2 HP DC/AC Surface Pump
  • State Government Subsidy: Rs. 56,737, Central Government Subsidy: Rs. 41,856, Total Subsidy: Rs. 98,593

  • 5 HP AC Submersible Pump – ₹1,88,038
  • 7.5 HP AC Submersible Pump – ₹2,54,983
  • 10 HP AC Submersible Pump – ₹2,54,983
  • The state government's share will be ₹1,40,780 and the central government's share will be ₹1,14,203.

The objective of the scheme is to reduce agricultural costs and alleviate the current electricity burden by providing solar pumps to farmers at affordable rates. Farmers will only have to deposit a token amount of ₹5,000 while applying.

UP Solar Pump Online Application Process

The Agriculture Department has appealed to farmers to apply on time. The application process is as follows:

  • Farmers should visit agriculture.up.gov.in.
  • Click on the "Book Solar Pump for Subsidy" link.
  • After filling out the application, deposit the ₹5,000 token money online.
  • Upon confirmation of booking, the farmer will be notified via SMS on their mobile phone.
  • After this, farmers selected in the e-lottery will have to deposit the remaining amount after the subsidy online.

According to Dr. Pankaj Kumar Tripathi, Director of the UP-Agriculture Department, if farmers take a loan from the bank to deposit the remaining amount, they will receive an interest subsidy of up to 6 percent under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF). This includes a 3 percent subsidy each from the central and state governments, which will significantly reduce the financial burden on farmers.

Things to keep in mind

Dr. Tripathi informed that the required borewell size for each pump is fixed, as follows:

  • 4-inch borewell for 2 HP
  • 6-inch borewell for 3 HP and 5 HP
  • 8-inch borewell for 7.5 HP and 10 HP

Borewell Size & Water Level Conditions

The borewell must belong to the farmer. If the borewell is not found during verification, the farmer's application will be canceled, and the deposited token money may also be forfeited. In addition, maximum water level limits have been set for different pumps, as follows:

  • 22 feet: 2 HP Surface
  • 50 feet: 2 HP Submersible
  • 150 feet: 3 HP Submersible
  • 200 feet: 5 HP Submersible
  • Up to 300 feet: 7.5 HP and 10 HP Submersible

The portal will display the combined target for 2 HP and 3 HP pumps district-wise. Farmers can choose a pump according to their needs.
