The matter of bridge collapse one after the other in Bihar has now reached the Supreme Court. A PIL has been filed in the Supreme Court regarding the continuous collapse of bridges in Bihar. By filing a petition in the Supreme Court, petitioner and advocate Brajesh Singh has urged the Supreme Court to direct the Bihar government to conduct an audit.
The petitioner said that the apex court needs to consider the current issue of bridge collapse in Bihar urgently. There is a dire need to conduct a structural audit of the highest level of all existing and under-construction bridges in the state.
9 bridges collapsed in Bihar in 15 days

He said that within two years, there have been several incidents of the collapse of three major under-construction bridges and large, medium, and small bridges. He said that some people died and many were injured in these incidents. On Wednesday itself, two bridges collapsed in the Saran district in a single day. Both bridges were built on the Gandaki River. This is the ninth incident of the bridge collapse in the last 15 days.
The collapse of both bridges has disrupted traffic between many villages. Its effect has also been seen in essential services like schools and hospitals. He has demanded from the court that the Bihar government should be directed to either demolish or repair old and weak bridges in view of the incidents of the bridge collapse in the state.
6 bridges collapsed within 24 hours

A total of five bridges collapsed on July 3. Two bridges collapsed in Saran and three in Siwan. Today too, there is news of a bridge collapse in Chhapra. Local people are upset due to the collapse of the bridge. In many places, dozens of villages have lost connectivity. At some places, people have to travel several kilometers to cover a short distance.
More incidents may happen due to corrupt nexus
He said that due to the gross negligence of the government and the corrupt nexus of contractors and concerned agencies, more incidents may happen in the future. The petitioner said that it is a matter of great concern that bridges are constantly collapsing in a flood-prone state like Bihar.
Such incidents of collapse of bridges in Bihar are devastating. Large-scale lives are at stake. Therefore, immediate intervention of the Supreme Court is needed to save the lives of people. The PIL highlights the incidents of the collapse of various bridges in Araria, Siwan, Madhubani and Kishanganj districts of Bihar, most of which are bridges built on rivers.
