A technology analyst has suggested that Apple may be planning to replace the clickable volume and power buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro with solid-state buttons, similar to the transition from a clickable Home button to a solid-state Home button on the iPhone 7. If users are content with the solid-state buttons, the analyst believes that the same technology could be used in other premium phones in the future. This change would involve Apple using the Taptic Engine to replicate the traditional 'clicky' feel of a mechanical button when pressed.

Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst from TF Securities, initially reported in October that Apple was planning to use solid-state buttons for iPhones. On Wednesday, he reaffirmed this prediction with a series of tweets providing more information about how the supply chain would work.

Kuo further noted that Cirrus Logic, being the exclusive provider of the controller IC for the Taptic Engine's solid-state buttons, is likely to gain considerably as a result of this new design. He conjectured that, if the users are pleased with the design, it may be incorporated into other top-range products in the near future.
