Starting from January 1, 2024, Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 users will no longer be able to use Steam. Valve’s decision to end support for older versions of Windows is largely due to the need for the latest features and security updates available in Windows 10 and beyond.

Although Windows 10 currently constitutes the majority of players with 62.33 percent, the 0.09 percent of players using Windows 7 and the 0.34 percent running Windows 8.1 will need to upgrade or find an alternative in order to continue using Steam.

At the same time, Valve is also launching Dolphin Emulator on Steam. The emulator, which is a go-to for playing Nintendo Wii and GameCube games on PC, will have the added benefit of cloud saves, partial controller support and will be released in Early Access.
