The wedding between cricketer Smriti Mandhana and composer Palash Muchhal was scheduled to take place on November 23, 2025, but it has been indefinitely postponed due to multiple viral news stories which have created an increasing amount of confusion.

Social media was flooded with conversations about the rumors concerning Smriti's ex-boyfriend, Mary D'Costa and since Mary has now come out to clarify her relationship with Smriti, this has caused even more confusion surrounding the two women involved in this relationship.

Now that we know the facts surrounding the situation and which pieces of misinformation exist, we can determine what is valid and trustworthy.

Smriti Mandhana–Palash Muchhal Wedding Confirmed facts till now

  1. Wedding postponement – due to health reasons:
  • As stated in several reports, the official explanation given for the postponement of Smriti's wedding was the unexpected hospitalization of her father due to health issues.
  • At that point in time, Smriti had completed many events that occurred prior to the wedding ceremony, including the engagement, Haldi (Henna) Ceremony, and other associated functions; however, everything scheduled prior to the "Pheras" (which are the primary rituals associated with the ceremony) has been postponed.
  • After learning of the wedding being cancelled, Smriti removed all photographs and videos depicting her pre-wedding events from all social media platforms that she uses.
  1. Viral chats and Mary D'Costa's name surfaced:
  • After the delay of the wedding, various screen captures surfaced (and are shared widely) via social media platforms and Reddit of purported discussions between Palash and Mary D'Costa.
  • These screen captures implied Palash asked Mary to engage in swimming, hanging out, and other activities; hence, speculation that this may be part of the reason why he and Ananya delayed their wedding is not unreasonable.

Mary D'Costa's Side: What Did She Say?

Mary D'Costa herself responded publicly on social media with an Instagram post, as the volume of conversation grew. In that post, she made clear that: Mary D'Costa noted in her post that between 29th April and 30th May 2025, she was in contact with Palash about one month. There were never any private meetings; all conversations were held online; she clarified that she is not a choreographer and did not participate in the wedding ceremonies.

Additionally, Mary clarified that she previously disclosed the "chat messages" in July 2025; however, the messages have not yet been disclosed to the public. Furthermore, Mary clarified that her reason for publishing those messages was not to deceive, create a scandal, or create controversy; instead, Mary shared them because she believed the public should know the truth. Finally, although there have been many unverified rumours and claims about the viral chats, as of yet none of them have been verified, and numerous news outlets are still reporting those screenshots as "unverified."

Neither Palash Muchhal nor Smriti Mandhana, nor either family's parents, have said anything regarding any possible infidelity, marital separation, or premarital affair. The official reason given for the postponement of the wedding is that her father was in a medical state of distress. Many unsubstantiated rumors about Mary D'Costa, such as "she was the wedding choreographer" and "she engineered the affair," have now been denied by Mary D'Costa herself.

Some news reports also stated Palash went to see a medical doctor for treatment of some sort; however, providers of healthcare told Palash that his illness was related to "stress/exhaustion" and that his condition was not serious.

What's safe to say at this time—and what's not

Palash Muchhal-Smriti Mandhana

1. What can be said:

Due to health reasons, the wedding has been postponed. Mary D'Costa has said she was never involved in any of the wedding ceremonies. Mary now gets threats and is being trolled online. To this point, neither Palash Muchhal nor Smriti Mandhana has claimed to have cheated on each other nor have any of them broken up.

2. What should be considered rumours?

There is conflicting evidence regarding whether the viral chats are genuine, so it is impossible at this time to state that they have "cheated." Saying the wedding has been postponed due to the chats is not confirmed as fact, and it may also be premature to suggest their "relationship has ended."

Why Restraint Is Important

While it’s good to be aware and vigilant about viral social media posts, you have to remember that they are not always reliable or credible. People can edit screenshots, post old screenshots, or take them out of context. When you are making serious accusations against someone, it can put their life at risk. Therefore, as much as possible, to avoid making false accusations, wait to confirm the factual details of claims before making any accusations or comments, even if you believe you can confirm the source's identity.

The result:

Reliable sources confirm that Smriti Mandhana and Palash Muchhal have postponed their wedding because of medical health issues. Regarding Mary D'Costa and the alleged viral conversations (chats), she’s the one who originally released them onto social media. Mary has confirmed that the alleged chats took place in 2025, but she repeats that she is not a choreographer.

At this point in time, it is not accurate to state that Palash "has been proven to have cheated" as there has been no verification of the screenshots put forth in support of this claim by a reputable source or by a court of law. The use of hearsay or conjectured evidence made in an attempt to prove that a crime took place prior to giving interested parties the opportunity to take some time to see if a crime actually occurred is not appropriate.

To further reemphasise the words Mary: "I did not cheat and have never had any knowledge of this person. The only reason I presented these chats is to find out the truth and bring clarity to the subject."
