Silent Health Problems Caused by Modern Lifestyle Which Goes Unnoticed

The world has now become like technology too, in the sense that everything is happening in a rapid paced mode. So rapid that we forget to be mindful of ourselves. In this modern era, we have become so dependent on the modern lifestyle which is made easier by technology that we don't even notice how our comfort is converting into dependency but behind this comfort there are problems hidden, problems of health and this modern lifestyle has literally no ways of figuring out silent health problems. The silent health problems are slowly but steadily causing damage to our body and mind without even showing us a single symptom which is very dangerous because we will only be able to know about it when that problem will become serious and severe.

The silent health problems are caused by several factors such as longer duration of working hours, paying too much attention on excessive screen time, not consuming proper meals and poor dietary choices, staying inactive and lack of physical activity, not able to sleep well and disturbed sleep patterns, feeling constantly stressed and tensed all the time. All of these factors have gradually become the part of our daily routine that we have started to normalise but deep down they are turning into a major health problem and it is very important to know about this.

So let's know about the various silent health problems which we are not able to notice but they are silently taking place within us, this includes:

1. Chronic Stress

  • Chronic stress is the invisible killer for our body.
  • Chronic stress has been so much normalised that it is considered to be the daily routine part of our life.
  • Chronic stress can be caused by different factors such as the stress of deadlines at the workplace, facing financial pressure, stress of withstanding the societal expectation and many more such reasons.
  • Chronic stress is dangerous because it silently increases the risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, weakened immune system, hormonal imbalance, anxiety and depression.
  • There are no as such physical symptoms of chronic stress except the feeling of being tensed which we all find normal but it is actually producing the hormone of cortisol, that if produced more, damages the organs within our bodies.

2. Vision Problems

  • Vision problems are majorly caused because of digital eye strain.
  • We are engaged with smartphones, tablets, laptops, computers and televisions, throughout the day because of which our eyes don't get proper rest.
  • Digital eye strain causes blurred vision, frequent headaches, dry or watery eyes and difficulty in focusing which ultimately leads to vision problems.
  • Vision problems are not caused immediately but slowly because of a very longer exposure to the screentime.
  • The prolonged exposure leads to causing vision problems by deteriorating the sight of vision and blurring the vision.

3. Poor Posture

  • You may never imagine that just by not sitting properly, you can have a health problem since poor posture causes damage to the musculoskeletal.
  • If you sit with poor posture for many hours either at home or sitting incorrectly for longer duration at the workplace so it leads the spine to silently suffer.
  • Poor posture causes chronic neck and back pain, slipped discs, weak core muscles and reduced flexibility.
  • Sitting with poor posture makes people think that it's just a little bit of discomfort but actually it is causing a lifetime spinal problem.

4. Gut Health Issues

  • Gut health issues leads to causing damage to the digestive system.
  • The issues in gut health are caused by eating a lot of fast food, not eating at proper times or irregular meal timings, consuming excessive caffeine and the intake of fiber is low.
  • The issues in gut health causes poor digestion, nutrient malabsorption, weakened immunity, bloating and acidity.
  • A damaged gut health not just creates a barrier for the digestive system but also for the mental health as well by causing mood swings, cravings, anxiety, and fatigue or dizziness.

  • Sleep deprivation is caused by disturbed sleep cycle.
  • Sleep deprivation emerges because of late-night screen usage, binge-watching, scrolling social media, and work pressure disrupts the natural sleep cycles.
  • If you do not sleep well, then chronic sleep deprivation can lead to hormonal imbalance, weight gain, poor concentration and memory, increased risk of diabetes and heart diseases.
  • You may think that your body functions well only from 5 to 6 hours of sleep but this is not the truth because in reality your body is mentally getting weaker since every human body requires 7 to 9 hours of sleep.

6. Lifestyle-Induced Obesity

  • Lifestyle-induced obesity takes place even if you are not overweight.
  • In modern lifestyle, being slim is the ideal bodyweight although there is a new syndrome discovered that is skinny fat syndrome.
  • In skinny fat syndrome, though a person looks slim but still has high body fat and low muscle mass.
  • This lifestyle-induced obesity leads to high cholesterol, insulin resistance, fatty liver disease and increased risk of heart problems.
  • Staying inactive for longer hours and if there is lack of physical activity as well then it will damage the metabolic health, leading to poor nutrition.

7. Hormonal Imbalance

  • The hormonal imbalance is caused by daily habits that we execute as a part of our routine.
  • Such disrupting daily habits includes irregular sleep, chronic stress, processed foods, lack of physical and mental exercises.
  • Hormonal imbalance leads to fatigue, mood swings, dizziness, weight fluctuations, bloating and irregular menstruation cycle in women.
  • The imbalance of hormones mostly goes unnoticed unless it affects our mental health or issues in fertility.

8. Early-Onset Diabetes

  • The early onset of diabetes leads to insulin resistance.
  • In this modern lifestyle, Type 2 diabetes is not just getting diagnosed amongst people in their 40s but it is also occurring within the young ones.
  • In the early stages of diabetes, it doesn't show any symptoms. But later on gradually the blood sugar levels increases which causes the damage to nerves, kidneys, eyes without feeling any pain.

The early onset of diabetes can only be diagnosed through regular health checkups, which detects such conditions.

9. Mental Health Issues

  • Mental health issues are caused because of a hectic life.
  • As a result of our busier lifestyles the emotional state of our mind goes unnoticed.
  • The emotional state then turns into emotional burnout, leading to depression, anxiety, exhaustion and frustration.
  • Mental health issues show some silent symptoms such as the feelings of constant tiredness, loss of interest in things, feeling irritated all the time and the feeling of being emotionally numb.
  • We all are so much busy in glorifying productivity that we have given a very tiny space to acknowledge what our mental health goes through but ignoring it leads to long-term aftermaths of an  improper mental well-being.

10. Weak Immunity

  • Weak immunity is caused because of untimely, improper and irrational unhealthy habits of our lifestyles.
  • This includes taking a poor diet, not sleeping enough and lack of sleep, feelings of stress and mental exhaustion, not feeling able to do anything and staying physically inactive. All of these factors weaken the immune system.
  • Weak or low immunity causes leading to frequent infections, a slower recovery from illness and constantly feeling low in energy.
  • Although people misunderstand weak immunity as tiredness and not pay much attention to it which later on turns into a health issue.

Modern lifestyle seems harmless but deep down it is silently impacting on our health. The arrival of silent health problems is not to be announced, they are needed to be understood. So understand all these pointers well by reading it carefully and then listen to your body before it speaks loudly and change the unhealthy habits before it turns into a major problem because recognizing the silent health problems caused by modern lifestyle which goes unnoticed but you have to notice it and take timely action to protect your physical health and mental well-being.
