Much like in the first innings, India relied on one batter to do the bulk of their scoring, with Shubman Gill hitting 104. But the rest of the batting line-up kept falling away as England managed to keep them in check.
After losing four in the first session, India lost more in the second while Gill got to his third Test ton. The batter himself overcame a jittery start to produce a fluent innings thereafter.
Shubman Gill Made a Sublime Ton For India
Earlier Shubman Gill made a sublime ton for India to take them to 255 in the second innings. Tom Hartley was the pick of the bowlers for England with four wickets. On Day 2 Jasprit Bumrah blitzed through the England batting lineup on Day 2 which restricted England to just 253, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal will hope to extend the home team’s lead further on Sunday.
Gill And Axar Managed To Make a Partnership
Gill and Axar managed to play sensible cricket after the break and stitched together an 89-run stand that pushed India’s lead ahead. The under-pressure Shubman Gill got to a deserving ton soon. But just as he was looking to up the ante, he fell gloving a reverse sweep off Shoaib Bashir. India was then pushed further back when Axar was trapped LBW by Hartley as he tried to whip one across.
