Given that the score was tied, why does Team India feel like they lost? Friday's One Day International (ODI) series opener at R. Premadasa Stadium saw Rohit Sharma announce his return in Hitman-style against Sri Lanka. Rohit's lightning-fast 58 off 47 deliveries ensured that opener Shubman Gill took a backseat. Team India became the oddsmakers' favorite to win by 231 runs with several overs remaining after Indian openers took the visitors to 75-0 in the first 13 overs.

Great Drama On Match

Rohit's post-match comment that "these things happened" was summed up by what happened next. The hosts produced a stunning scoreline against the same opponent, days after Sri Lanka earned a mini-diploma through crash-and-burn finishes. Charith Asalanka, captain of Sri Lanka, bowled India's 48th over when they only needed five runs from 18 balls. Asalanka, an off-spinner, took out an on-swinging Shivam Dube (lbw) for 25 as the ninth wicket, exposing Team India's poor batting.

Arshdeep's Houdini Act

By dismissing Arshdeep Singh on the following ball, Asalanka pulled off the Houdini trick, setting up an exciting conclusion to the match. His two-in-two save helped Sri Lanka salvage a draw in the series opener in Colombo. None of the Indian batters, including Virat Kohli (24), KL Rahul (31), Shreyas Iyer (23) and Axar Patel (33) and Dube, relied on their starts to win the game for the team coached by Gautam Gambhir.

'Disappointed Not To Get One Run' -  Rohit Sharma

Indian captain Rohit was gracious in defeat at the press conference following the match. It was possible to get the score, but you had to bat well to do so. We batted well in patches yet there was no steady energy. We had a good start, but we knew that the game would start when the spin started. We lost a couple of wickets and fell behind," Rohit said. " We returned through the stand among Axar and Rahul. "I won't read too much, just disappointed that we didn't get that one run with 14 balls," the skipper continued.

Great Indian Collapse

IND vs SL

In the low-scoring match against Sri Lanka, Rohit's rollicking start failed to save India from 75-1 to 230 all-out in 47.5 overs. Wanindu Hasaranga (3), Charith Asalanka (3), and Dunith Wellalage (2) each took six wickets in the 50-over match. Wellalage's career-best score of 67 (65) brought Sri Lanka's total to 230-8.
